Fern Sully is the solo act of Becca Howes (they/them), a queer, nonbinary artist based in Toronto. Since 2015, Becca has been playing in bands, formerly for Camp Girls, and now fronting Nice Going and drumming in Baby Band. Since the onset of the pandemic, Becca has been writing music as a way to cope with the uncertainty and isolation that have come with quarantine. Delving deep into experimentation with sound has enabled them to not only feel okay but alive at a time when the world stands still. This is how Fern Sully came to be.

“Way Back” is a fun bedroom pop song, and a first for Fern Sully. The video, which was produced and directed by Becca, is the perfect visual representation of how one’s self image can be so detrimental to your personal well being. Stream the video below and be on the look out for more new music from Howes.

Way Back explores the emotional explosion that occurs when mental illness, isolation, trauma & addiction come to a collision. Written in the thick of the pandemic and complete with painfully honest lyrics, Fern Sully opens up about how buried pain can creep into the subconscious and fragment our sense of self; leaving us to feel indefinitely lost.

- Any livestreams coming up?

Not currently but I would absolutely love to be a part of some! Hit me up y’all!!!

- What's the first CD you ever bought for yourself?

Let Go by Avril Lavigne

- Dream tour: If you can book your band to open on any tour with any 2 other artists who would you pick?

Oh this is EASY. Swearin’ — my number 1 favourite band of probably 6 years now, and Fall Out Boy, because it would be a true teen Becca dream.

- What is something in your life you feel lucky to have?
Everyone who has continually supported my art and music over the years and has been there for me at my lowest points to remind me that I matter. Also my dog, Rosie, and my therapist.
